Here are some things to consider before you buy your Palm, Pocket PC or Handheld Computer.
Decide why you need to own a Handheld Computer, Palm or Pocket PC and what you expect to get out of it. The first step is to understand what you want your PDA to do, try to be realistic here. You want to make sure you get the features you need and don’t pay for too much stuff you don’t.
Research the operating systems you are considering. Find a comparison of the operating systems and make a list of the pro’s and Con’s of each so that you can make an informed decision on which way to go.
Once you have decided on Operating System it will narrow down your search significantly. Read the handheld and PDA articles you can find in magazines or on the internet to get an idea of what is out there.
Ask people you know who have PDA’s what they think of them. You can even ask people on the train in the morning or on the bus. You might be surprised how much people like to talk about their technology, and there is nothing like first hand reports from users.
As you narrow down your search and eliminate the models that don’t meet your requirements you can check out the PDA Manufacturer's web sites for more detailed data sheets on the models still in the running.
Check out the software and accessories available for the PDA models you are considering. If a digital camera functionality is important to you, then make sure you are considering the expansion possibilities of the models you look at or you could buy one with a built in digital camera.
Keep notes of your findings as you go along so you can refer back to them for reference. List your needs and your wants those things that are a must have and those that you would like but could live without if need be.
Try as many models as you can, nothing will prepare you better than actually playing with a PDA.
